How to maintain PE ball valves

Routine Inspection
Maintaining a PE ball valve is like performing regular maintenance on a car; routine inspection is fundamental. Before operating the valve each day, observe its appearance for cracks, deformation, or signs of leakage, just like checking your skin for wounds. When turning the valve handle, feel for smooth operation without any sticking-if it requires force to turn, it indicates potential internal impurities or insufficient lubrication. Pay special attention to the sealing of the connections; wipe the joints with a paper towel. If water stains or dirt are present, the sealing ring needs replacement. It is recommended to mark the open/closed status on the valve body weekly with a marker to avoid accidental operation that could lead to abnormal pipeline pressure.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Although PE material is corrosion-resistant, prolonged contact with impurities such as mud, sand, and algae can still affect its lifespan. Monthly, use a soft-bristled brush dipped in neutral detergent to gently scrub the valve body surface and threaded areas, like giving the valve a "spa treatment." For internal cleaning, the valve core can be removed and rinsed with clean water (note the disassembly order). Use cotton swabs to clean the grooves between the ball and the valve seat-these areas are most prone to accumulating dirt and grime. If the valve is installed outdoors, the valve body surface should be rinsed with a high-pressure water gun quarterly, taking care to avoid electronic components (if any). After cleaning, be sure to dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth to prevent water residue from causing rust (although PE will not rust, metal parts may be affected).

Lubrication and Storage

Lubrication is key to extending valve life. Every six months, apply a small amount of silicone-based grease to the valve stem threads (avoid oily lubricants, as they easily attract dust), and rotate the valve handle to distribute the grease evenly. If the valve will not be used for an extended period, it is recommended to place the valve handle at a 45° angle (neither fully open nor fully closed) to reduce the risk of deformation of the sealing ring due to prolonged pressure. When storing, wrap the valve body in a plastic bag to prevent direct sunlight from causing PE material aging-like putting a "sunscreen" on the valve. If the valve needs to be disassembled for storage, remember to place a layer of cling film between the valve seat and the ball to prevent direct contact between metal parts and potential adhesion.
